The Abilene Animal Shelter at 925 South 25th in Abilene posted on the City's Facebook page that it is NOT accepting any owner-surrendered animals from now through Friday, May 13, 2022. While no explanation was given for the halt in service, one can only imagine how backed up the City Of Abilene's Animal Shelter is at this time.
While I was speaking with Mz. Holland the Abilene Animal Shelter Interim Director and she informed me that the shelter was overrun with dogs, cats, kittens, and puppies and that they needed to clear some space by having an emergency pet adoption.
It seems that the pandemic took its toll on our fur babies because a lot of pets were not neutered or spayed. Now, we've got issues city-wide with more animals than the city can handle at this time.
So, if you've been in the market for a dog, cat, puppy or kitten now is the time to step up to the plate and adopt a fur baby. Many of which come with the ownership chip, shots, and a voucher for having your pet neutered or spayed.
Please, if you are responsible enough to take care of a pet and can afford to adopt one the Abilene Animal Shelter needs you right now. Frankly, I don't want to think of what's going to happen to these innocent creatures because we have been inconsiderate and irresponsible.
The Abilene Animal Shelter is NOT ACCEPTING ANY owner-surrendered animals of any kind. To adopt go to the Shelter at 925 South 25th Street here in Abilene between 9 am and 5 pm Monday through Friday to adopt. Don't call the Shelter, just go and see which fur baby captures your heart.
