Zac Efron Makes for a Killer Ted Bundy in First Look at ‘Extremely Wicked’
The fact that Zac Efron, handsome human man, looks a lot like Ted Bundy, infamous serial killer, is making us a little…uncomfortable. But maybe that’s the point of Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile, the new film in which Efron portrays Bundy and reminds us that yes, even charismatic and very attractive people can be total murder monsters. To prepare you for this rude awakening, Efron has revealed the first photo of himself as the notorious psychopath.
And yep, he is both handsome and looks a bit like Ted Bundy in this image, which features Efron mugging for a mugshot:
And here’s director Joe Berlinger posing for a similar mugshot and announcing that the movie will begin filming today:
Berlinger is best known for directing (with Bruce Sinofsky) the documentaries Paradise Lost and My Brother’s Keeper, as well as Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2 (which totally rules, don’t even think about trying to @ me on this).
For those unfamiliar, Ted Bundy was a serial killer and rapist who murdered multiple women in the 1970s. He was known for using his good looks and charisma to gain the trust of young women, whom he’d lead to secluded areas and murder — later returning to their corpses to groom them (ugh) and perform sexual acts on them (double ugh). Bundy also proved that psychopathic murderers could literally be the hunky dude next door, and Efron definitely fits that bill.
Lily Collins (Okja) will portray Bundy’s girlfriend, Elizabeth Kloepfer, in the film, which tells the story from her perspective. Liz was, as you can imagine, in serious denial about her boyfriend’s horrible double life, but eventually turned him in to authorities.

Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile also stars John Malkovich as Judge Edward Cowart (the judge who sentenced Bundy to death) and does not yet have a release date. But we’re definitely keeping an eye on this one.
