What's Up With the Texas Artist Who Swept the 2003 Grammys?

This past week I heard a hit played by a singer/songwriter/pianist who came to fame in the early 2000s. I remember her songs being everywhere. She was everywhere. For good reason.

Norah Jones rose to prominence after the release of her 2002 album Come Away With Me. That debut album sold over 20 million copies worldwide and dominated the Grammys.

At the 45th Grammy Awards in 2003, Jones was nominated for eight Grammy Awards and won five: Best New Artist, Album of the Year, Best Pop Vocal Album, Record of the Year, and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance for 'Don't Know Why'. - Wikipedia

Wherever I heard Jones' voice the other day, I realized I hadn't seen much news about her in recent years and wondered where life had taken her.

Don't Know Why I was so curious about her whereabouts, but I did what many of us do these days when wanting the current scoop on, well, anyone remotely famous. I googled her online, read her Wikipedia article, and perused her website.

Turns out she's still at it, honing her craft and cranking out croons. Jones released her ninth album Visions in March of this year. She's also host of the podcast Norah Jones Is Playing Along.

And she's on tour. Her only Texas stop is scheduled for October, headlining at the 2024 Austin City Limits Music Festival.

Born in New York in 1979, Jones was raised by her mother in Texas, attending Grapevine schools, Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing & Visual Arts, and the University of North Texas, where she majored in jazz piano.

In 1999, Jones moved back to New York and began her professional musical career. Twenty-five years later she's still making music and sounding soulful as ever.
