The award-winning brainchild of British playwright Nick Payne, Constellations originally premiered in West End in 2012. The American production, which starred Jake Gyllenhaal in his Broadway debut, opened in 2015.

The story centers around only two characters: Roland, a beekeeper, and Marianne, a cosmologist who studies the universe. After meeting at a barbecue, their budding romance takes several twists and turns through infidelity and heartbreak, ultimately reuniting the two characters after a difficult medical diagnosis.

Much of Constellations' success and appeal is in its unpredictable structure, where brief scenes repeat with vastly different outcomes between the two characters. If you loved the plot twists and unexpected endings of the classic choose-you-own adventure books, make sure you snag tickets to see Constellations.
