Kris Kristofferson has been named the recipient of the CMA's 2019 Willie Nelson Lifetime Achievement Award. The legendary country tunesmith and artist will receive the honor during the 2019 CMA Awards ceremony.

“Kris is a living legend whose impact on our genre has been monumental,” says Country Music Association CEO Sarah Trahern in a press release. “He is the definition of an icon and someone our community holds with such high regard. I’m thrilled our board selected Kris this year for one of the CMA’s highest accolades."

Kristofferson will be honored during the 2019 CMA Awards with a performance of his classic hit "Me and Bobby McGee," performed by Dierks BentleySheryl Crow, Chris Janson and John Osborne of Brothers Osborne. Kristofferson himself will not be in attendance, Trahern says, but "I hope our tribute performance brings a big smile to his face."

Kristofferson is a Country Music Hall of Fame member and eight-time CMA Awards winner. He is the fifth recipient of the CMA's Willie Nelson Lifetime Achievement Award, which is presented to "an iconic artist who has attained the highest degree of recognition in country music," in recognition of "both national and international prominence through performances, humanitarian efforts, philanthropy, record sales and public representation at the highest level."

The 2019 CMA Awards are scheduled to air on ABC on Nov. 13, at 8PM ET; the ceremony will take place live at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena. Reba McEntire, Dolly Parton and Carrie Underwood will co-host the event, which will also be highlighting some of country music's female artists.
