It Gets Hot in Texas – Cool Down with Ice Cream From These Local Shops
I have a love-hate relationship with ice cream. As a child I could eat it 24/7. My favorite flavors were chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, and every flavor in between.
However, as I grew older ice cream decided it was gonna do things to me I didn't like, namely lactose intolerance. I blow up like the Stay-Puff Marshmallow Man and I'm not talking about weight gain either.
Fast forward to today. I've been married over 36 years and my wife absolutely, positively loves ice cream. She's got her favorite flavors: all of them. She can sit and enjoy ice cream day or night, it doesn't matter the season. I am the chauffeur who drives the ice cream queen around town.
Abilene has some top-notch places for ice cream. The wife and I frequent Larry's Better Burger soft-serve at least once a week. There's also Lucy's Big Burgers where they feature different homemade flavors; my favorite is cinnamon.
However, if my sweetheart is going to have fancy ice cream, some other local places I might drive her to include Roll Shack, Two Profs Gourmet, or Mary's Paleteria. Abilene has a plentiful supply of great places to find those creamy creations. Try out Gus's Gelato in Cordell's or, if you're up for something a bit healthier, try the frozen yogurt at MOOD Froyo & Coffee, both off Buffalo Gap Road.
