Country Chart Chronicles: Another Superstar Almost Sang Brad Paisley’s ‘I’m Gonna Miss Her’

Brad Paisley earned a big hit with -- and met his future wife because of -- his song "I'm Gonna Miss Her (The Fishin' Song)," but he almost gave it away! Country icons Alan Jackson, Garth Brooks and George Strait all expressed interest in recording the track before Paisley recorded and released it himself.

Paisley and Frank Rogers -- at the time, both students at Nashville's Belmont University -- wrote "The Fishin' Song" together for a college show. When Paisley signed to Arista Nashville, he'd hoped to use the song on his debut album, released in 1999, but Rogers -- now Paisley's producer -- suggested offering the track to a more established artist. Paisley deferred.

However, Paisley's debut, Who Needs Pictures, became a Top 15 album and earned Paisley two No. 1 songs ("He Didn't Have to Be" and "We Danced"), and he kept "I'm Gonna Miss Her" for himself. Released as the third single from Paisley's sophomore album, 2001's Part II, the track became another chart-topper for Paisley.
