Abilene’s Favorite AM Donuts Reopens After Owner’s Passing
In November of 2001, two brothers moved their families from California to Abilene and brought with them their family business. The business in California was called "What-A-Donut." However, by the time the doors opened in Abilene, the Kim brothers decided that they would operate under the name "AM Donuts."
Since then, AM Donuts Croissants & More and their famous pink boxes were an office and family favorite in Abilene for over 21 years. My wife who is in the medical field introduced me to the iconic pink box that she took to work quite often. The donuts are light, fluffy, and delicious.
Co-owner George Kim became ill in December 2021 and passed on Christmas day 2021. Almost everyone in the Big Country that had either met the Kims or did business with them felt the tragedy of George's passing. It was a huge blow to Abilene The Kim family is family.
After George's passing, the family decided it would be best for them to close the doors and take the time needed to grieve, recuperate and do some remodeling and minor changes to a couple of their locations.
The great news is, that AM Doughnuts are open again and West Texans are lining up to enjoy their favorite breakfast treasures. While I missed my favorite maple donuts and their wonderful Kolaches, I've also started appreciating my wife's favorite the chocolate covered or the plain glazed.
Nonetheless, if you want AM Donuts go get them, and remember my age-old advice, "you're never late to work if you're the one bringing in the box of AM Donuts."
