Zooey Deschanel Separates From Husband Ben Gibbard

What feels like just moments after Kim Kardashian split from Kris Humphries, Zooey Deschanel and Ben Gibbard have followed suit with a separation of their own. Deschanel rep confirmed the decision to US Weekly, adding that it was “mutual and amicable” and that “there was no third party involved.”

The quirky 31-year-old actress broke geek hearts everywhere when she married Gibbard, the frontman for the indie band Death Cab for Cutie, in 2009. Gibbard, 35, gushed about Deschanel as recently as September’s New York Magazine cover story on her, recounting when they first met, and saying he was “awestruck” that she was even talking to him.

In addition to acting in ‘New Girl,’ Deschanel is one half of the indie pop band ‘She and Him.’
