Saddle Up, Abilene: The Richest Bulldogging Event on Earth Is Headed to Texas
If you love Texas rodeo action that hits like a freight train, circle March 27–29 on your calendar. The X-Treme Bulldogging Finals are stampeding into Taylor Telecom Arena, and this isn’t just another stop on the rodeo trail; this is the richest stand-alone steer wrestling event on the planet.
We’re talking a jaw-dropping $100,000 in added money and the top 40 steer wrestlers in the world going head-to-head right here in the Key City. Yep… Abilene is hosting history.

A Weekend Packed with Cowboy Action (and a Little Whiskey)
Things kick off Friday morning with a massive qualifier. More than 200 bulldoggers will throw everything they’ve got at two rounds and a short-go just to earn 10 spots in Sunday’s Finals. Blink, and you’ll miss it because these runs are measured in seconds.
Saturday turns into a full-blown Texas rodeo party around town. There’s an autograph session, whiskey tasting, and live broadcast at H&H Beverage, followed by a Benefit Calcutta and Auction at Potosi Live supporting the Texas High School Rodeo Association. Toss in live music from Texas blues powerhouse Seth James, and you’ve got one heck of a Saturday night.
Sunday Is Where Legends Are Made
Sunday afternoon is the main event with three rounds plus a short-go featuring the best bulldoggers on Earth battling for that historic payday. The day starts with Cowboy Church at 9 a.m., because around here, faith comes before horsepower.
Why This Is a Big Deal for Abilene
Stand-alone bulldogging events with this kind of money are rare. Having one in Abilene puts the city squarely on the rodeo world’s radar and gives fans a chance to witness elite athletes up close, with no nosebleed seats required.
If you’ve never seen steer wrestling live, prepare yourself. It’s fast, violent, wildly impressive, and about as Texas as it gets.
