The Sweetwater Jaycees 64th Annual Rattlesnake Round-Up is almost here. The roundup takes place at the Nolan County Colesium and is held on the second weekend in March.

The Roundup features a parade, a beauty pageant, daily rattlesnake hunting tours, a fried rattlesnake-meat-eating contest, food booths, a barbecue cook-off, nightly dances, a carnival, a giant flea market, and an awesome gun show.

I believe, the Sweetwater Jaycees Rattlesnake Roundup is the most fun, educational, safe, and most importantly, memorable experience. As Seen in the photos below.

LOOK: Here's What You Can Expect At The 2022 Sweetwater Rattlesnake Roundup

The one facet on the roundup I really think is the best part is the fact that the Jaycees do not miss an opportunity to teach everyone that attends the rattlesnake roundup, all about these slithery critters. Furthermore (if you are so inclined) hands-on experience is also offered at the roundup.

If there's one thing that's certain, the recent West Texas weather has had the rattlesnakes (all snakes for that matter), out looking for food during the "middle of winter" when snakes are "supposed to be dormant." Nonetheless, we must all be on the lookout for snakes during warm days.

This is one of my favorite events to attend and participate in. While I never won the snake eating contest I did get to compete in the cookoff and we placed. So go have fun, take the kids, and learn all about snake safety.
