Sam Hunt Shares Psalm 91 for Route 91 Harvest Festival Victims
On Saturday (Sept. 30), Sam Hunt performed on the Route 91 Harvest Festival's main stage and shared some of his biggest hits with fans. One day later (Oct. 1), a horrifying mass shooting at the festival, while Jason Aldean was headlining the event's final night, took the lives of more than 50 country music fans and injured more than 500 others. In light of the tragedy, Hunt shared a Bible passage from the Book of Psalms, hoping to offer some comfort.
Hunt posted two photos on Instagram on Monday (Oct. 2): One is a grainy photo of Hunt looking at the ground; its caption reads "Lord be near (Route 91) Psalm 91." The other is captioned "Psalm 91/Route 91" and displays the first 16 verses of Psalm 91.
The first two verses of Psalm 91 read, "He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, 'He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust."
Country Stars Respond Following Route 91 Harvest Festival Shooting
Hunt is one of many country artists who have voiced a response to the devastating Route 91 Harvest Festival shooting. Maren Morris, who also performed on Saturday, shared her unreleased song "Dear Hate," featuring Vince Gill, saying, “I never knew when would be the right time [to release this song], but I realized today that there’s never a right time."
"Hate is everywhere," Morris adds, "and I’m sick of not doing enough.”
Miranda Lambert, meanwhile, spoke about the shooting during her show Tuesday night (Oct. 3). Vince Gill played at a Nashville vigil in honor of the shooting victims on Monday night (Oct. 2), and many other country artists have posted on their social media pages or spoken out in other ways.
