Maren Morris Joins Pentatonix for A Cappella ‘When You Believe’ [LISTEN]
Maren Morris joins Pentatonix for a new holiday release, an a cappella rendition of the song "When You Believe," which was originally part of the 1998 DreamWorks film The Prince of Egypt. Readers can press play above to hear the re-imagining.
Written by Stephen Schwartz with additional music and lyrics by R&B star Babyface, "When You Believe" was originally recorded for pop radio by Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston. The Prince of Egypt tells the story of the biblical figure Moses and the faith of the Hebrew people who were enslaved in ancient Egypt, and those themes are reflected in the song's lyrics.
"Many nights we've prayed / With no proof anyone could hear / In our hearts a hopeful sound / We barely understood / Now we are not afraid / Although we know there's much to fear / We were moving mountains long before we knew we could," the first verse leads off, with Morris on lead. The building chorus ties in to the holiday spirit of faith and hope.
"There can be miracles when you believe / Though hope is frail / It's hard to kill," goes the chorus. "Who knows what miracles / You can achieve / When you believe / Somehow you will / You will when you believe."
The new a cappella version of "When You Believe" is from Pentatonix's new holiday album, Christmas Is Here. Morris' sophomore (non-holiday) album is in the works. She's up for Female Vocalist of the Year and Musical Event of the Year at the 2018 CMA Awards.
