Kip Moore Says His Lack of Awards Nominations ‘Doesn’t Faze Me One Bit’
Throughout his career, Kip Moore has only been nominated for two CMA Awards, both for New Artist of the Year, in 2013 and 2014. The singer-songwriter has sold more than 4 million albums, earned a No. 1 hit ("Somethin' 'Bout a Truck") and five more Top 20 singles, and headlined sold-out shows all over the country -- and he says he's too busy making music for his fans to worry about whether the industry organizations notice his accomplishments or not.
"It doesn’t faze me one bit," Moore tells The Boot of not receiving nominations at the country music awards shows. "I think that anybody, any artist, would find joy in being recognized, and I think that if I was up for something or to win something, of course it would be humbling, and I would be thankful, but it doesn’t dictate how I feel. It’s not going to break me one way or the other."
Moore released his third studio album, Slowheart, in September. It might be Moore's best piece of work to date, and he only found direction for the record by silencing the inner critic that continued looking for affirmation from the very industry of which he is a part.
“I no longer hold my success on if I’m playing arenas or winning awards the way I used to, what I used to shoot for,” Moore says. “My goal is to truly touch people’s soul with my music, the way the greats did with me. I want to give people an escape in my music, and I want to continue to be able to play my own music to a fanbase that wants to come hear it … I just want to make the best music and be the best songwriter and performer I can, and that’s all I strive to do.”
Moore will embark on his headlining Plead the Fifth Tour on Oct. 19, in Bowling Green, Ohio. A list of all of his upcoming shows is available on his website; Slowheart is available for purchase on Amazon and iTunes.
