Texas Man Arrested After Alleged Killing Of Teen Due To Video Game “Smack Talk”

A 35 year old male was arrested by police following an incident which resulted in the death of a 15 year old. Here's what is known at the time of writing.

Video Game "Smack Talk" Alleged To Have Cause Death Of Teen

Per NBC DFW, the incident occurred on August 17th, 2024. In a document obtained by the news organization, 15 year old Tavion Swindell and 35 year old Deeven Jones were taking part in "smack talk" while playing video games. However, the exchange became more heated than normal.

A witness stated that the following exchange was alleged to have happened during the playing of the games:

Swindell: "I can't wait to play the game and beat (expletive)."

Jones: "You can't even beat my (expletive), lil boy."

Swindell: "Who can't?"

After this moment, the situation changed dramatically.

Swindell Shot And Killed After "Smack Talk" With Jones

According to NBC DFW, after the exchanging of words, Jones shot the young Swindell in chest. In addition, Jones told the witness to not alert authorities, and proceeded to leave the area with the firearm he used. After leaving the scene, police used alternative means to find the location of Jones.

Through the use of social media and various techniques, officers were able to locate the car of Jones and place him under arrest. His bond was set at $260,000. In addition, a sibling of Jones told him that he disposed of his cell phone after being notified via a different cell phone.

Swindell's family told NBC DFW they simply don't understand how this happened. The Uncle of Swindell, Raymond Andrew Jr. said the following:

"He was just a fun-loving kid; he always would mess with you and be smiling about it...I’m telling you, he had a good heart. It kind of pisses you off because the kid hasn’t even lived. He hasn’t even gotten out of school."
