The city of Austin, Texas has grown quickly over the years. With the city welcoming new people almost every day, it almost seems like it would never stop right? Well, it looks like that might not be the case.

Who Has Come To Austin For The Technology Growth?

Multiple companies have come to the Lone Star State for the amenities it offers. One of the states that Texas took companies away from was none other than California. Some of the businesses mentioned by The Austin are HPE, Oracle, and Tesla. But, the only constant thing in life is change.

Over time, people associated in tech have stated that travel to their jobs in Austin became more difficult, as well as things getting more expensive have pushed them away from the state. In addition, worries about the area around Austin being in a little bit of disrepair.

Overall, according to The Austin, 1.6% jobs were lost in the area of Big Tech, while 4.9% of startup sector were lost too in 2024. But, where are they going?

Who Is Making A Comeback, Overtaking Austin?

As revealed by The Austin, it appears California is staging a comeback. San Francisco saw 1.8% growth in Big Tech opportunities. Gabriel Farid Guerra, who used to live in Austin for his job but has since moved to San Francisco said that "Austin... It's kind of dead.” He wasn't the only one with an opinion about the city as well.

Reza Khosravi, a startup creator, stated that “I did not find [Austin’s] culture of innovation and diversity.” He is also in San Francisco.

So, it looks like Austin has some work to do on bringing tech back to the city.
