The State of Texas will soon have new requirements in place when it comes to getting a hunting or fishing license.

Proof of Residency Rule Takes Effect This Summer

According to WFAA, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission approved a new, proof-of-residency requirement for fishing and hunting licenses. The new rule was approved in order to cut down on the about people who claim to live in Texas so they can pay a cheaper fee.

The Changes Go Into Effect on August 1 in Texas

How will this effect Texans? For most, it shouldn't. All you will have to do is show a valid, unexpired driver license or personal ID when buying a license through the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.

Easy enough right?

Those who live outside of Texas can still get a license, but they will have to show a a REAL-ISD according to WFAA.

But residents of the District of Columbia and 19 states, including California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Illinois, Massachusetts, Maryland, Minnesota, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, Rhode Island, Utah, Vermont, Virginia and Washington will need a REAL ID-compliant license or ID. If they don’t have one, they’ll need to show a standard ID plus another form of documentation, like a U.S. passport, military ID, handgun license, birth certificate or official government document proving citizenship.
