Lubbock Has One Week Left to Help Keep Our First Responders Hydrated

If you've been meaning to help out with Lubbock County's Support Our First Responders (SOFR) Campaign, consider this your friendly reminder.

Earlier this month, I shared how the Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC) was asking the community to donate bottled water and monetary contributions to help keep our firefighters, law enforcement officers, EMS crews, and emergency personnel hydrated during another brutal West Texas summer.

The response has been encouraging, but the campaign still has work to do.

The Final Week Is Here

The SOFR Campaign, which was extended through July 31st, is now entering its final week.

With triple-digit temperatures becoming the norm across the South Plains, organizers say the need has never been greater.

Think about it.

While most of us are complaining about walking across a hot parking lot, our first responders are working traffic accidents, fighting fires, responding to medical emergencies, searching for missing people, and helping families on some of the toughest days of their lives...all while wearing heavy uniforms and protective gear.

Staying hydrated isn't just about comfort.

It's about staying healthy and ready to respond when someone dials 911.

Progress... But There's Still A Long Way To Go

The good news is the community has stepped up.

So far, the campaign has received enough monetary donations to purchase 31 pallets of bottled water, along with another pallet's worth of bottled water donated during the community drop-off event earlier this month.

That's a fantastic start.

Unfortunately, the goal for 2026 is 60 pallets, meaning organizers are still nearly halfway short of where they hope to be before the campaign wraps up.

Businesses Can Make A Huge Difference

While individual donations are always appreciated, the LEPC is especially encouraging businesses, churches, civic organizations, and community groups to get involved during the campaign's final stretch.

A donation of $200 covers the cost of an entire pallet of bottled water that will be distributed directly to first responders serving communities throughout Lubbock County.

Even smaller donations help move the needle.

Every dollar gets the campaign one step closer to making sure the men and women who protect us have the resources they need during one of the hottest summers of the year.

One thing I've always loved about West Texas is that when there's a need, this community usually answers the call.

Whether it's filling a food pantry, helping after a storm, or supporting local charities, Lubbock has a reputation for showing up.

Let's do it one more time.
