Is Relief in Sight? Breaking Down This Week’s Scorching Amarillo Weather

Growing up in Amarillo, one thing we can count on is that Amarillo's weather can be extreme. Swinging from extreme heat to sudden cool-downs in the blink of an eye is a classic Amarillo weather tradition, but this week brings very little variety.

Lather, Rinse, Repeat: The Triple-Digit Forecast

Think of it like the classic shampoo bottle instructions: lather, rinse, repeat, only substitute 'heat' for the first two steps.

That seems like our weather forecast this week, except that it is heat, heat, and repeat. If you liked last week's multiple days of triple-degree heat, then you are ready for this week. There seems to be not much change in that.

Our week started with one hundred-degree temps or close to it. Monday we made it over one hundred, if you were concerned. So how about the rest of the week?

Tuesday we will probably hit one hundred again. The wind will be around, making it feel like a blow dryer on high setting if we are keeping the hair care analogy going. However, Wednesday is where we may not exactly make it over the triple-digit heat.

We are like the little engine that could because we are going to hit around 99, so anything is possible. We could make it over 100, but at this point we are hoping not to.

If you are looking for a cool down towards the end of the week, I guess you could say hitting below 100 is the best we could give you.

Mid-Week Relief and Late-Night Rain Chances

Wednesday and Thursday, we may only see around 98, so there is your good news. Even better news is we could see some rain overnight Thursday into Friday. Right now we are looking at about a 40 percent chance, so we will take it.

Surviving Tax-Free Weekend and Back-to-School Heat

That rain isn't going to cool us off too much, though, as we head into the weekend, and the Tax Free Weekend, still in the high nineties. I wouldn't rule out hitting the one hundred degree mark if we are lucky.

So, just be prepared as you are back-to-school shopping, that you are going to want to crank that air conditioner in the car each and every time you get in. Summer break may be coming to an end, but the summer heat is not.
