Two Affordable Texas Road Trips Wichita Falls Residents Should Take This Summer
Looking to get out of Wichita Falls for a nice road trip this summer, but are on a tight budget? These are some good options to scratch the itch to get out and experience some new places without breaking the bank.
First and foremost, the good news is that you live in Texas, which is among the cheapest states for road trips, according to a new study by Dunhill Travel. I won’t bore you with all the statistics, but one of the main reasons the Lone Star State was ranked in the top 20 states for affordable road trips is the fact that the average price of regular gasoline is the 3rd lowest in the country (even though gas is anything but cheap these days).

But if you want to get the most bang for your buck, you might want to start planning a trip to either of the following spots, both of which are an easy drive from Wichita Falls.
The Texas Panhandle

It only takes about three and a half hours to get to Palo Duro State Park from Wichita Falls. Head to the second-largest canyon in the country for a day of hiking or to just marvel at its beauty while enjoying a picnic. Afterward, you can head north to Amarillo for some good grubbing, shopping, and nightlife.
The Texas Hill Country

What can I say about the Hill Country that hasn’t been said thousands of times before? Drive about four and a half hours south out of Wichita Falls, and you’ll be rewarded with charming small towns, a vibrant culinary and music scene, and, for my money, the most beautiful countryside in all of Texas.
