The Guns

Texans love guns. It's estimated that there are well over a million guns in Texas. Texans love guns for home and personal protection, hunting, and just for collecting. We have absolutely no problem having a gun in our homes or or on our hip. It's just a way of life here and guns have become as ubiquitous as a set of car keys...you just grab 'em both before you leave the house.

The Problem

So what is the problem with guns in Texas? Well, believe it or not, we're not here to talk about misuse, gun deaths, or any other scary gun facts. The "gun problem" we fact in Texas is theft. That's correct, it's estimate that over 47,000 guns are stolen each year in the Lone Star State and the experts who gave that number said it's likely an undercount.

When Things Go Bad

The problem with stolen guns is simple, it's not that you lost your gun, it's that a person who is already up to no good now has it. The thief with your gun will most likely go on to committing other crimes and may even use your gun in the process. If the gun is found after the commission of a crime, things could get very sticky for you.

What To Do

First off, ALWAYS report your stolen gun(s) so you don't get blamed for anything that gets done with them. Second, secure your firearms and DO NOT leave them in your car. Probably the easiest way thieves get guns is by breaking into cars. Lastly, lock them up whenever possible. Also, make sure you take pictures of the make and serial numbers in case your stolen firearm is ever recovered.
