5 Lubbock Places That Feel Like You Accidentally Left Lubbock

Lubbock has a very specific look.

You can usually tell you're here without even checking for a street sign.

Flat. Dry. Kinda ugly. (I'm sorry. It's true.)

We don't have mountains. We don't have streams. We don't have a whole lot to look at around here. But, every once in a while, you'll stumble across a place that makes you think, "Wait a second...Am I still in Lubbock?"

For a city sitting out here on the dusty South Plains, we have some pretty weird little pockets that feel like they belong on a different pair of jeans...

1. The Silent Wings Museum

You were driving around Lubbock, and now suddenly, you're standing next to a real World War II glider.

You'll find a restored WACO CG-4A glider and some really cool exhibits about the brave glider pilots who served in the war at The Silent Wings Museum, located at the former South Plains Army Airfield.

It's the kind of place where you expect a tiny little boring museum, but walk out thinking, "HOW in the HECK did they get ALL OF THAT in there?"

2. Lubbock Memorial Arboretum

The Lubbock Memorial Arboretum has gorgeous, lush gardens, something you hardly ever see in Lubbock. Wandering through there is like walking right into a fairytale.

It's basically the exact opposite of Avenue Q...

3. Lubbock Lake Landmark

This one is particularly weird. It doesn't look like the kind of place where you'd find thousands of years of history, but it is.

The archaeological setting combined with the landscape makes you feel like you are completely removed from the city.

Lubbock Lake Landmark is truly one of the coolest things in our city.

4. The National Ranching Heritage Center

Historic buildings. Walking trails.

It's peaceful and strangely immersive.

The National Ranching Heritage Center makes you feel like you've walked through a time warp.

5. The American Windmill Museum

Nope. You didn't drive into a strange little alternate universe. You're still in Lubbock.

The American Windmill Museum has one of the largest and most impressive collections of working windmills in the world.

There are hundreds spread across the property. Watching them spin is mesmerizing.
