Blue Bell Just Dropped A New Summer Flavor Texans Need To Try

Could Blue Bell Ice Cream be the most iconic food in Texas? That may be a little too big of a fight to start, because Texas barbecue, Tex-Mex, and Whataburger all have loyal armies ready to go.

Texas barbecue is aces, there’s no doubt about that. But believe it or not, there are other places, like Kansas City, that are also known for barbecue. Blue Bell, on the other hand, is from Texas, and even though we allow a bunch of other states to enjoy it, it still feels like ours. It’s one of those things Texans take personal pride in, like good brisket, high school football, and pretending summer isn’t trying to kill us.

But the most iconic dessert in Texas? That one feels a lot easier.

Leading up to Independence Day, we were treated to Red, White & Blue Bell. If you’re lucky, you may still find a little on the shelves before it disappears. That flavor featured strawberries, blueberries, and that creamy vanilla ice cream Blue Bell does so well. It was basically summer in a carton.

Blue Bell Launches Another Outstanding Summer Flavor

Now Blue Bell is back with another flavor that deserves your attention: Chocolate Lava Cake.

Let me unpack this one, because it’s a tiny bit different from what I expected, and that’s a good thing. It’s vanilla ice cream with chocolate cake pieces, chocolate sundae sauce, and a dark chocolate fudge swirl. I was expecting a chocolate ice cream base, but Blue Bell made the right call here.

The vanilla gives all that chocolate somewhere to land. Instead of being chocolate on chocolate on chocolate until your taste buds wave a white flag, the vanilla lets the cake, sauce, and fudge swirl really pop. I would venture to say this is one of Blue Bell’s most chocolatey flavors ever, even with the vanilla base. It’s rich, it’s smooth, and it’s amazing.

It’s also a nice little reminder that cooling off doesn’t always require a road trip. It’s hard and expensive to get out of town. We’d all love to hit a lake, beach, or waterpark if we could, but for those of us too busy, Blue Bell Ice Cream gives us a little vacation in a bowl, or a cone.
