VIDEO: Coin Flip at Texas Gas Station Decides Playoff Fate for One District
Over the weekend, it was something straight out of a movie. A coin flip decided which high school football team was going to the playoffs in 5A District 1 in North Texas.
A three-way tie needed to be settled.
The coin toss determined who would make it to the playoffs. The high schools included Lubbock High, Amarillo High, or Amarillo Caprock. The video has popped up on my social feed multiple times
The coin flip took place at midnight at the Toot and Totum Gas Station in Plainview, Texas. Imagine letting a coin decide your fate after all the hard work that went into your season.

A coin flip was the storyline for 'Friday Night Lights.'
If this sounds familiar, this same thing took place in 1988 in West Texas.
Midland, Midland Lee, and Odessa, all 5-1 in district, had a coin flip to decide. This would later become the storyline of the movie "Friday Night Lights."

Here is the video footage of the original coin toss that inspired Friday Night Lights. Love the 80s style coaches' attire. If I recall correctly, that game was epic!
