If you are from South Texas, chances are that you have either been to or at least heard of Schlitterbahn Waterpark. Many of us have memories of the park; one of mine was a little more traumatic. I got stuck at the top of the uphill rollercoaster. The water for the ride had to be turned off. We walked around a turn before sitting back in the tube while we waited for the water to be turned on. I was a little freaked out.

The best waterpark in the state of Texas:

Schlitterbahn has been rated the best waterpark in Texas and even the "world's best waterpark" for many years. This raises the question: How well is the waterpark maintained?

A recent video posted to TikTok shows some definite neglect, and people in the comments definitely had some opinions as well. One of the recurring answers in the comments is that Schlitterbahn is under new management, the same company that owns Six Flags. A recent visitor to Schlitterbahn documented on TikTok some of the neglect around the waterpark, like chipped paint and rust. They even spotted areas of mold and mildew.

@scsj89 I’ve been going to Schlitterbahn since I was a wee little thing, and I don’t ever remember it looking this run down. Chipped paint, rust, mold, mildew—you name it. It’s honestly heartbreaking to see it in such rough shape. I know it’s changed hands a few times, but wow. Just… wow. 😔 It used to feel magical as a kid, but now it just feels neglected. Places like this hold so many childhood memories for so many of us. I really hope someone steps in to bring it back to life. #S#SchlitterbahnC#ChildhoodMemoriesS#SadToSeeT#TexasSummer♬ Jet2 Advert - ✈️A7-BBH | MAN 🇬🇧

Six Flags acquired Schlitterbahn in 2024.

Amusement park giant, Six Flags acquired Schlitterbahn in 2024. I have been to their waterpark at Fiesta, Texas and it seems pretty clean. Read about the huge merger by clicking here.

Improvements are on the way for 2026.

Schlitterbahn has responded to the videos by saying that "improvements for the 2026 season will be announced later this year." See the full statement from Schlitterbahn at mysanantonio.com.
