Southern Living claims Texas is home to some of the most haunted roads in America. That's right, roads. Sightings of apparitions and strange phenomena reportedly happen along their winding pathways. With Halloween on the way, now is the perfect time to shed some light on three of the most notorious haunted roads in Texas, each with a chilling story to tell.

Others take a more scientific approach and think they could be the result of swamp gas or other natural occurrence.

Another haunted road in Texas is El Camino Real, also known as the Old San Antonio Road. This trail is said to be haunted by the spirit of a headless horseman, who is believed to be a Spanish soldier decapitated by Native Americans. If you travel this road you may encounter a headless figure riding along the trail. Listen carefully and you might even hear the sounds of galloping hooves.
