First on my list is Stanley Kubrick's masterpiece, The Shining. Based on Stephen King's novel, this story of a haunted hotel was one of the first movies I remember going to the drive-in to see. Jack Nicholson's portrayal of Jack Torrance, together with his eerie "Heeeere's Johnny!", puts this movie in my top five in a hurry.

Following closely is Halloween, directed by John Carpenter. This slasher classic introduced the world to Michael Myers. With its classic music and unforgettable masked murderer, Halloween sets the standard for all slasher films and is a staple during the spooky season.

Sinister puts a modern twist on the horror genre. This story of a true-crime writer uncovering an evil secret is as interesting as it is terrifying. The film's evil demonic force, Bughuul, will have you checking your attic. A great movie with some solid jump scares.

Amityville Horror needs no introduction. Based on purported real-life events, this film dives into the lives of the Lutz family after moving into their new home. The house's sinister past, together with supernatural occurrences, make this a must-watch.

Finally, The Changeling provides a classic haunted house tale. The film uses atmosphere and tension rather than relying on jump scares. This makes for an eerie, slow-burning fright that lasts throughout the entire movie.

Gather your friends, pop some corn, and prepare for some chills that will leave you checking your locks and looking under your bed. To me, these movies are some true classics of Halloween. Sweet dreams.
