It was a regular morning like any other when I checked my e-mail and there it was. A monthly utility bill from the city of Abilene. As I read the statement, I couldn't believe my eyes - the water bill was a whopping $500! My emotions at the time were shock, disbelief, and anger. I know it's been extremely hot in these parts but there's no way I used that much water.

Normally my water bill is a fourth of the amount I was sitting and looking at. I had to get to the bottom of this. I immediately called the city of Abilene water department. Naturally, I was told that there was no malfunction in the meter. How could a bill escalate to $500 out of the blue? After all, it's not like I filled a swimming pool.

The next call was to a plumber to come out and hopefully make some sense of the issue. A water line test was done and a small pinhole leak was tracked to the hall bathroom. Really? A pinhole leak? I was in disbelief that something so small would cause my bill to spike up so much all of a sudden. It just didn't make sense. Was the city of Abilene trying to pull a fast one over on me? You hear those horror stories all the time.

I get it. I know that even the smallest water leaks can add up over time, but $500 worth, in a month? C'mon now. Feeling frustrated, I took action to repair the leak and prevent any future occurrences. I'm still not convinced that a pinhole water leak was responsible for that ridiculous bill.

Now to combat the city on this. Let's hope that since there was an unseen leak some mercy will be shown.

With a utility bill like this, I might have to find an extra side hustle. Unless of course, I was a Texas billionaire. We have plenty of those. Maybe someone below can help with my water bill.
