I live in a neighborhood that has had quite a few families moving in some are military while others are coming in with the new businesses coming into the Key City. The one thing I hear my neighbors commenting the most about is "what a great city to raise a family in" and the other statement I hear a lot is "Abilene has a lot of Churches."

The conversation started with one of my new neighbors is the choices that he and his family have in finding a new church home in Abilene. First off, he came from a small city church that was an older church that started in the 1920s and he'd like to find something like that here. He likes the old church feel because it feels like grandparents set the standard there.

So with that, I got to thinking about some of the older churches here in Abilene with some of the most incredible architectural structures that were built in the early 1900s, the 20s, 30s, and 40s. Just looking around town I was able to gather a few photos of the awe-inspiring buildings.

Come to think of it, I tend to agree with what my new neighbor David said about the older churches with their turn-of-the-century architecture tend to give one a feeling of old-school comfort and confidence. While looking around inside some of these old church buildings you get a sense of what our parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents were building to make our city bigger better, and stronger.

While I tried to get the most obvious big churches, if you can think of any other grand structure churches let me know and I'll include them as well. However, I've also included the different denominations and the actual number of churches in Abilene.

While everyone states "there are a lot of churches in Abilene" nobody ever has a real number count for all the churches in Abilene. I always thought (and was told) that there were at least 320 or more churches in Abilene, WRONG. I did a little research and discovered that there are 171 churches, but then again the pandemic has taken its toll on our churches in Abilene and across America for that matter.

Finally, how many different denominations are there in Abilene? I've included that information below as well.

How Many Different Denominations Are There in Abilene?

The other half of the question is "How Many Different Denominations Are There?" That question actually floored me because I thought there were the basic dozen or so. I learned that there are well over 30 (yep, thirty) denominations in Abilene alone. I've listed the different denominations below:
