With spring right around the corner in Abilene, and the rains we've had thus far, it's a good idea to start thinking about putting out some weed-killer. It's easy to go grab a bag of your favorite at the big box stores, but I've got the "Fearless Fix".

The "Fearless Fix" is something my wife keeps in the kitchen. It's natural and it won't harm the cats and dogs around the house. Better yet IT WORKS!  I've been using it for years because I hated hearing the kids crying about being stuck by burrs and stickers.

My fix is natural and safe. It's so safe you can drink it, but I do not recommend it. Simply mix 1/2 cup of Epsom salts and 1/2 cup of white vinegar into a gallon of water. Spray the weeds in your yard and keep them from getting wet for at least 72 hours. Best to make sure there's no rain in the near forecast.

The kinds of weeds we have around these parts of Texas are Goathead thorns (aka Tribulus Terrestris), Chickweed,  Crabgrass, Henbit, Rescuegrass, Annual Bluegrass, and every kid's favorite weed, Dandelion (the yellow flower weed with the white "wish-maker"). The latter is spread by children (and maybe a few young-at-heart adults) when they blow and make a wish that distributes the Dandelion seed.

Sometimes the "Fearless Fix" needs a little help, usually when we've had a rainy season. I will combine herbicides with my natural mix, and I'll have to stay consistent with my lawn care.

I hope this helps, and that we can all keep our Texas lawns weed-free.
