The cool part about working for a company like Townsquare Media is that we receive the newest music sooner than other stations. When I first heard Jason Aldean's new song "Try That In A Small Town", I fell in love with it right away. When I see all the riots and crazy crap going on in bigger cities, I think to myself, don't try something like that in our small west Texas town - you may not make it out of town without being arrested.

While I agree you can't be carjacking or sucker punching, the lines of the song that most pulled at my heartstrings were these:

Got a gun that my granddad gave me / They say one day they're gonna round up

I clearly recall when my love for cold steel started at about 4 or 5 years old. I had a little wooden rifle that shot rubber bands. I must have taken out every bad guy known to man and harvested the biggest deer ever with my rubber band gun.

So when Aldean touched on the subject of those wanting to come into our homes and take our hunting rifles and heirloom firearms - like the ones his grandfather left him - that's when I lost it emotionally. I too have several family heirlooms handed down from my great-grandfather, grandfather, dad, and father-in-law. All are collectibles. Take a listen to Aldean's song above, and see if it doesn't put a lump in your throat too.

l remember vividly when I turned 7 years old begging Mom and Dad for a Red Ryder BB Gun. Mom said no because she was fearful I would hurt myself. The day I turned 18, I bought my first 30/30 Winchester Lever Action Saddle Rifle. Secretly, every time I shouldered that bad boy, I thought I was a real cowboy.

Today I am the most awesome predator hunter the world has ever seen. Using my real pinewood rubber-band gun, I can take out a bad guy from 1500 yards away with a hard left to right 17 mph crosswind. Now you know why they call me "Fearless Fernandez". Please be a responsible gun owner.
