Since the pandemic is for the most part over and we are all trying to go back to what was normal prior to the pandemic. The sale of firearms went sky-high during our quarantine days. The surprising part was that the Texas numbers did not go up that much and Texas only made the top ten in the last 24 months.

Fast forward to today because Texas and Florida's gun sales numbers are up and at an interesting rate. While for the most part, in the rest of the United States, the numbers are plummeting we in Texas appear to be shopping for food and guns.

Recently SafeHome.org just released their latest findings and it shows that "approximately 17.4 million guns were sold in 2022, and 1.4 million guns have been sold monthly in 2023." The latter shows that there's about a 12% drop in gun sales across the U.S. but not in Texas.

Here's a few key insights from SafeHome's research:

  • An estimated 1.4 million guns were sold monthly between January and May 2023.
  • In 2022, approximately 17.4 million guns were sold in the United States. This is about 12% fewer than in 2021.
  • Alaska, Montana, and Wyoming had the highest estimated gun sales per capita in 2022.
  • In 2022, gun sales rose year over year in only three places: Iowa, the District of Columbia, and Oregon.
  • So far in 2023, Texas and Florida lead the nation in total estimated gun sales, making up about 14% of all guns sold nationwide.

We Texans are back to Barbecuing and hunting and we need the tools of the trade. The Texas Gun of Knife Show returns to the Abilene Convention Center on Saturday from 9 AM to 5 PM and Sunday from 10 AM to 4 PM, August 19th and 20th. The cost is only $7 for persons 13 and up, while children 12 and under get in free.

Word of advice: if you bring your firearm into the gun show remember to have it unloaded and checked in at the front desk of the show.
