Abilene area enlisted Air Force members spend a good amount of their Saturdays washing cars in local business parking lots. They wash cars not for their own organization, but rather to help out other non-profit charitable organizations in our community. The 'Dyess We Care Team's' (DWCT) motto is "Defending our country while serving our community" and that is exactly what they do around West Texas.

On several occasions, I have been invited to be part of the Dyess We Care Team's community events. As I recall, the founder of the Dyess We Care Team Gordon Storey invited me to be a part of a couple of home-rebuilding projects. I remember one was for an elderly couple whose two bathrooms and kitchen Plumbing were no longer working and the home needed painting. Another project was when a young couple was trying to rebuild and update a room for their soon-to-be-born baby.

Every time the DWCT came together, they provided the labor and supplies needed to complete these projects. And every time the Dyess We Care team left the neighborhood looking better than they found it.  I remember the time when the expectant parents came home to find a group of men and women (Dyess We Care Team) cleaning up after building the baby's room. The soon-to-be dad was in tears and ever so thankful.

The We Care Team comes up with the labor from the Airmen and Women at Dyess Force Base and as for supplies or money for expenses that are needed, the Dyess We Care Team raises the funds by hosting car washes on weekends around town.

This coming Saturday, July 22nd, the 'Dyess We Care Team' (DWCT) will be back at it next to Fox Coffee at 4574 South 14th Street in the parking lot. Need your car, truck, van, or SUV washed just stop by their car wash Saturday from 11 am until 4 pm. There is no set price on a car wash your donation is greatly appreciated.

The DWCT is very excited to host its annual "Operation Warm Heart" car wash fundraiser is matched by the Star Family Dealership that assists by providing emergency funding for Airmen. Proceeds from this event will also benefit "Friends for Life" which is an organization whose mission is to provide needed assistance for the elderly and those with disabilities that don’t have family or friends to help them.

To DONATE or for more information contact Gordon Storey at (325)-864-1286. I hope to see you at the car wash.
