While the world appears to be going crazy, the Abilene community has always had a very special relationship with the Abilene Police Department. This year we get to celebrate with the Police Chief and his awesome team of officers.

So get the kids ready, and come have some fun during Abilene's National Night Out with Abilene's finest. Children will be able to explore the police motorcycles and cars, and visit with police officers on horseback. There will be food, games, activities, and lots of pictures to be snapped. Join the fun on Tuesday, October 3, from 5 to 8 PM.

National Night Out Began in 1984 in an effort to bring the community and Police closer together

National Night Out began in 1984 as a replacement for the National Association of Town Watch, which began in the suburbs of Philadelphia in the 1970s. Today National Night Out has grown into an opportunity for our community and police departments to come together and build a stronger, better, safer community.

I personally see National Night Out as an opportunity to teach children not to be afraid of the police but rather to turn to them when they need help. It's an opportunity to get to know the people who are our officers and first responders. It's an annual opportunity to build a relationship between neighbors and law enforcement, nurturing a true sense of community.

As the motto says on their flyer below, "Together we are making communities safer, with more caring places to live and work together." We'll see you there.
