They’re calling it the Stargate Project, and let me tell you, it’s as big as it sounds. With a $500 billion investment from OpenAI, Oracle, and SoftBank, this initiative aims to build 20 massive AI data centers, each around 500,000 square feet. And guess where the first one is being built? Abilene. That's right, our small city is about to be on the map in a way we’ve never seen before.

Houston Joins the AI Movement

Just today, the Wall Street Journal reported that Houston is getting in on the action, too. Apple is constructing a 250,000-square-foot facility that will manufacture servers specifically designed for AI development. This move is expected to bring in at least 200 new jobs, adding to the growing tech workforce in Texas.

It’s no surprise that Houston is becoming another AI hotspot. With its booming energy sector, world-class universities, and massive infrastructure, the city is primed for tech expansion. But what really gets me excited is the fact that Texas is no longer just an oil and gas state, we’re quickly becoming a tech-driven powerhouse.

I’ve been covering the Texas job market for a long time, and I’ve never seen anything quite like this. The sheer scale of investment and job creation is staggering. This AI boom isn’t just for Silicon Valley insiders, it’s creating real opportunities for people in Texas, from software engineers to data analysts, and even manufacturing workers who will build the infrastructure supporting AI’s future.
