The Abilene Police Department Impound Facility has scheduled its auction of abandoned and wrecked vehicles with the auction company The auction opens for bidding on Tuesday, September 5, and will continue until 12 PM Wednesday, September 13, 2023 at which time winning bidders can start removing their paid-for auction items.

This year there are well over 91 lots up for bids. The biggest chunk of the auction is 4 automobiles, three motorcycles and related, four pickup trucks, three RVs/travel trailers, 23 SUVs, three trailers, and two vans.

The vehicles being auctioned off can be viewed online and online only. To view all items go to the auction website The Abilene Police impound lot is located at 2349 Sandy Street in Abilene, near the intersection of East Hwy 80 (aka Business 20) and Loop 322 (one mile east of Judge Ely Blvd.)

I was informed that "most of the vehicles" I saw at the impound facility were in what I judged as "pretty good shape". Many vehicles had been abandoned; some had damage from crashes they were in. If you need a part for a car, truck, van or SUV, this may be the place to be.

To sign up and start bidding, you'll have to go to and be preapproved for bidding. The auctioneer's website has photos and details of the vehicles in this auction. For further information please call 325-676-6089 or email

The Abilene Police Department would love to clear the APD Impound Facility. Removal of the vehicles once the auction is over will be by appointment only, Monday through Friday from 9 AM till 4 PM. There will be no assistance with removal of the vehicles. All items must be removed by no later than Wednesday, September 20, 2023. Any vehicles left in the impound lot will pay $25 per day per item, and storage fees will be charged to the buyer.

If you are sending a third party or transport company to remove the items, they must bring a completed Authorization of Release form. For all bidding instructions and auction guidelines, check out the Rene Bates Auction website.
