Join Abilene Police for National Night Out October 6
When I encourage folks to attend National Night Out, I want everyone to understand why this evening matters. Yes, there’s food, music, and fun for the kids. But its purpose reaches beyond the festivities: helping neighbors and police officers get to know each other and work together for a safer community.

I, Rudy "Fearless Fernandez", and all of us here at Townsquare Media love this community. We have tremendous love, respect, and admiration for the men and women of the Abilene Police Department, the Abilene Fire Department, and all our first responders. National Night Out gives us an opportunity to thank them face to face for everything they do for our community.
What Is National Night Out?
National Night Out is a nationwide effort to strengthen relationships between residents and law enforcement. It encourages neighbors to meet, learn about safety, ask questions, and build trust with the officers serving their neighborhoods.
The National Association of Town Watch introduced the campaign in 1984. Early gatherings included front-porch vigils. Today, communities host cookouts, block parties, and safety demonstrations. Most celebrate in August, while Texas and select other areas observe it on the first Tuesday in October.
When and Where to Join Abilene Police
Abilene’s celebration takes place Tuesday, October 6, 2026, from 5–8 p.m., at the Abilene Police Department, 4565 South First Street. Admission is free, and everyone is welcome.
APD describes the evening as an opportunity to give back to the community and celebrate our city together.
Free Food, Live Music, and Family Fun
United Supermarket Store #548 will provide free food and drinks. Children can enjoy bounce houses and face painting by the Abilene Public Library. Red Line, a band featuring firefighters, will provide live music.
The Bahama Bucks Ice Cone Truck will also be there, with treats available for purchase.
Families can meet members of the Abilene Fire Department and explore police displays featuring the Bomb Squad, K9 Unit, Motor Officers, Bearcat, APD drones, and more.
A Thank-You From the Heart
To our officers: I respect you, appreciate you, and thank you for everything you do for Abilene. Behind every uniform is a person with loved ones and a commitment to serving our community.
Bring the kids, meet your neighbors, and take a moment to shake an officer’s hand. Stronger relationships can begin with something as simple as “Hello, and thank you.”
