After 41 Years of Joy Abilene’s Living Christmas Tree Is Retired
Abilene’s Living Christmas Tree Retires After 41 Years, Making Way for Something New and Spectacular
For over four decades, the Living Christmas Tree at Wylie Baptist Church has been a beloved holiday tradition in Abilene. Towering 30 feet high and filled with the voices of 50 choir members, it was a moving celebration of faith and the Christmas spirit. As someone who has attended this awe-inspiring event more than a dozen times, I know firsthand the joy it brought to me, my family, and countless families in our community.
However, after 41 years, the Living Christmas Tree has retired. The men who directed this event have stepped down, and the church leadership has decided to embrace a new chapter for the Christmas season.
Introducing the "Abilene Christmas Spectacular"
This year, Wylie Baptist Church is excited to debut the Abilene Christmas Spectacular. This fresh and dynamic event promises to be just as awe-inspiring as the Living Christmas Tree. Featuring uplifting music, powerful storytelling, and a vibrant holiday atmosphere, the Spectacular will carry forward the church’s mission to glorify God and celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ in a meaningful way.
What You Can Expect at This Year’s Event
The Abilene Christmas Spectacular will immerse attendees in a heartwarming celebration of the season. From joyous music to an inspiring retelling of the Christmas story, this event offers something for the entire family to enjoy.
While the towering steel structure of the Living Christmas Tree won’t be there, the same spirit of love, hope, and community will shine brighter than ever through this new tradition.

Honoring the Legacy of the Living Christmas Tree
Though the Living Christmas Tree is no longer part of the holiday lineup, its legacy lives on. For 41 years, it brought joy, hope, and the message of Christ to families in Abilene and beyond. This year’s Abilene Christmas Spectacular builds upon that foundation, offering a fresh way to celebrate the season and share the greatest story ever told, the birth of Jesus Christ.
