In my opinion, this is the best time of year for sports. The Super Bowl is coming up and the NASCAR season is just getting started with their own Super Bowl, of sorts, the Daytona 500.

However, the Daytona 500 isn't the only race getting fans excited, because here in the Abilene area, we're also really stoked about the opening of Abilene Speedway's season with the Ice Breaker.

Abilene Speedway's season starts with the "Ice Breaker" on February 18th and 19th and runs through mid-October when it wraps up with the Southern Challenge.

If you've never been to a race at the Abilene Speedway, then make the Ice Breaker the first you go to. I'm talkin' nonstop, wall-to-wall action featuring IMCA Stock Cars, IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sport Compact, IMCA SportMods, Street Stock, Jr. Mini Stocks, and Jr. Sport Compacts.

Here's the weekend schedule for the Ice Breaker at Abilene Speedway:

  • Friday, February 18th: Gates open 5 pm - Racing starts at 7:00 pm
  • Saturday, February 19th: Gates open 3 pm - Races 7:00 pm

How much does it cost to go to the Ice Breaker at Abilene Speedway:

Admission each day costs $12 adults, kids are $5, military (with ID) $10, and pit passes are $35.

Check out Abilene Speedway's website for more info.

Currently, the forecast for Ice Breaker weekend calls for highs in the mid-60s and lows in the mid-30s, so make sure you bring jackets (and a blanket or two) as it'll be pretty chilly at night. However, no rain is expected so we're all in for an action-packed weekend.

Bet You Didn't Know: 10 Bizarre Texas Laws Still on the Books

Many states still have strange laws on the books that aren’t enforced or taken seriously anymore, and Texas is no exception.

Most of these laws are just funny now, but at one time, there was a valid (or at least somewhat valid) reason for them to exist.

Texas has plenty of strange rules and regulations that you could technically be prosecuted for if you violate them, since they've never been amended. Some of these are only for specific cities and not state-wide, but all of them are pretty odd!

Let's take a look at 10 of the weirdest ones in the Lone Star State.
