If you’ve been anywhere in Texas, you’ve probably heard the buzz about Dexter and the Moonrocks, the “Western Space Grunge” band that’s taking their hometown sound straight into orbit.
I caught up with Fox, the drummer for the band, ahead of their big show this Saturday in Baird at the Big Time Bash, an event proudly supporting our military. Now, I’ve talked to a lot of musicians, but few are as down-to-earth (and funny) as these cosmic cowboys.

West Texas Boys Doing Big Things
Turns out, these dudes didn’t just fall off the tour bus into stardom. They came up right here in the Abilene area, and Fox even played for Abilene Christian University before trading cleats for cymbals.
So, Why Dexter and the Moonrocks?
The name might sound like a Saturday morning cartoon, but it’s got its own lore. Fox told me the story behind it, and without spoiling too much, let’s just say it’s exactly the kind of wild, creative brainstorming session you’d expect from a band that calls their genre Western Space Grunge
