2018 Golden Mic Awards Best Live Backing Band: Ashley McBryde’s Deadhorse

Behind every great performer is a band that helps them find success. Ashley McBryde's backing band, Deadhorse, is no exception, and they have won the 2018 Golden Mic Awards' Best Live Backing Band category.

Comprised of bassist Chris Sancho, guitarist and mandolin player Chris Harris, drummer Quinn Hill and guitarist Andrew Sovine, Deadhorse are both versatile and hilarious. With backgrounds in Motown and punk music, McBryde's collection of misfits fits the bill for the perfect backing band: They boast a solid repertoire of instrumental skills in addition to being contributing songwriters and providing harmony backup vocals on McBryde's album, Girl Going Nowhere.

"We came up with this kind of interesting sound, and we play together the way that we feel about each other," McBryde says of the groove she has found with Deadhorse. "We’re always in awe of each other. It’s really cool to watch a band that truly enjoys every second."

Deadhorse's 2018 Golden Mic Awards victory is an impressive feat, especially consider the more-seasoned bands they were up against. The runner-up in the Best Live Backing Band category was the talent collection that plays with Kenny Chesney, helping him build No Shoes Nation into what it is today, while Eric Church's backing band was in third place in the poll. Deadhorse received about 43 percent of the votes.
