Danielle Bradbery Shares Introspective Take on Kacey Musgraves’ ‘Slow Burn’
As promised, Danielle Bradbery has shared the second installment of her Yours Truly: 2018 project, and this time around, the country singer is covering one of the year's most iconic new country tracks: "Slow Burn" by Kacey Musgraves.
In her version of the song, Bradbery stays true to the original's focus on reflective, ambling storytelling, creating space for both singer and listener to luxuriate in the song's weightless, easy-going tempo. Musgraves originally included the song as the first track off of her latest studio album, Golden Hour, which came out in March of 2018.
When she compiled the three tracks that make up Yours Truly: 2018, Bradbery says she focused on selecting songs that made the biggest impact on her over the course of the year. Despite the fact that Bradbery is a country singer, "Slow Burn" represents the only one of the three tracks included on the project from the country format. When Bradbery released the first installment of the project, Ariana Grande's "God is a Woman," the singer explained that she grew up taking influences of a variety of different genres, and wanted to include her take on her favorite tracks from across a wide musical spectrum.
From that standpoint, Musgraves' track is an especially appropriate choice: While deeply rooted in country tradition, Musgraves herself experiments with genre, incorporating inflections of pop, disco and many other stylistic arrangements in her music.
The next and final cover slotted for release off of Bradbery's Yours Truly: 2018 project will be her interpretation of Post Malone's "Psycho." Fans will be able to listen to the track on Jan. 4, 2019.
