California-bred country group Calico the Band are premiering the music video for their song “Cold Cold Love” exclusively for readers of The Boot. Press play above to watch.

Styled to look like an old-school Western flick, the video for “Cold Cold Love” features Calico the Band's leaders, Manda Mosher and Kirsten Proffit, as outlaws hiding out in the desert. Filmed near Joshua Tree National Park in California, the clip gave the band an opportunity to take advantage of the area’s innate “mystical cosmic country connection."

“That is inspiration for us,” Mosher and Proffit tell the Boot. “It’s that mixture of deserted, dry and often lawless land alongside breathtaking sunsets and eerie quietness that laid the perfect setting.”

"Cold Cold Love" video director Jen Dirwington developed the concept for the clip -- Mosher and Proffit as women scorned -- with the same goal in mind.

“We loved her concept of two heroines betrayed by the same man,” say Mosher and Proffit. “We’ve had this desire to make a Western for a long time.”

Calico the Band's name is a portmanteau of “California country." The group's new album, Under Blue Skies (on which “Cold Cold Love” appears), is set for release on Sept. 15. It follow's the band’s 2014 debut record, Rancho California.
