Big & Rich's cover of Madonna's classic pop hit "Like a Virgin" has emerged online, and it's not quite like anything we've ever heard from them.

The genre-defying country duo of John Rich and "Big Kenny" Alphin brought an extremely different slant to the song, altering the chorus melody, adding an arpeggiated staccato guitar figure to support the rhythm track and delivering the lyric in two-part harmonies that have been treated with some sort of electronic sheen. Swelling synthesizers and a scream going into the final chorus add to the surrealistic feel of the track. Click on the video above to hear their unusual take on the song.

It's not the first time Big & Rich have covered "Like a Virgin;" in fact, it's been part of their live shows for years.

The song appeared without fanfare on YouTube on Thursday (May 16), and it's received very little exposure. The release is credited to Warner Music Group, the duo's former label, and it does not appear to be tied to any project. It's possible it's just a fun leftover from an old studio session that the label still owns.

Big & Rich currently record for their own label, Big & Rich Records. They partnered with Thirty Tigers to release their most recent album, Did It for the Party, in 2017. The duo's current single is "Brand New Buzz," and they'll perform at WE Fest in August as part of their summer touring schedule.
