Alabama singer Randy Owen has been honored with a special award from the Boy Scouts of America in his home state of Alabama.

Owen was in attendance at the organization's American Values luncheon on March 20 in Anniston, Ala., where he received the award. The city of Anniston's local Boy Scouts chapter, the Choccolocco district, presented Owen with the Heart of an Eagle Award, which recognized his compassion through community leadership, character and integrity.

“It’s a great honor to be recognized by the Boy Scouts of America,” Owen says in a press release. “I admire the great people who make scouting a wonderful lifetime experience for our state and country.”

This Tribute Was Overwhelming for Randy Owen

Owen launched the annual country radiothon St. Jude Country Cares for Kids, a fundraising event that has raised over $800 million for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital since its inception. He received the Ellis Island Award in honor of his effort for St. Jude.

Owen and Alabama have also worked on numerous disaster relief initiatives. The country icons organized and played concerts to support rebuilding efforts from tornadoes that struck Tuscaloosa in 2011, as well as Owen's alma mater, Jacksonville State University, in March of 2018.

Alabama celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2019. The band has earned 43 No. 1 singles and sold more than 75 million albums. The band, which also includes Teddy Gentry and Jeff Cook, are currently performing on their 50th anniversary tour.
