Keith Urban Takes a Stand With Powerful ‘Female’ at 2017 CMA Awards
Keith Urban is taking a stand for women with his new song, “Female,” which he performed live at the 2017 CMA Awards.
Standing alone center stage with just an electric guitar, the artist began his timely ballad speaking to the disrespect for women that still permeates our culture and standing up for the strength and beauty all women exhibit. As he sang, lyrics to the chorus appeared one by one on the screen behind him, giving even more poignancy to the moment as the audience soaked in the message.
The song, written by Shane McAnally, Ross Copperman and Nicolle Gaylon, is a tribute to women everywhere and a statement of solidarity from Urban that women are not objects. Urban released the song on Nov. 8, and it's the first we've heard from his yet-to-be-titled upcoming record, which is slated for release in 2018. It follows 2016’s Ripcord.
Urban was nominated for Entertainer of the Year, Male Vocalist of the Year, and Video and Song of the Year for “Blue Ain’t Your Color,” for which he took home Single of the Year.
