El Paso Veteran Turns Disability Into a Story of Possibility
October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month, a time to recognize the contributions of people with disabilities in the workplace and highlight the importance of creating opportunities for everyone to succeed.
This month, El Paso’s own Ruben Martinez is a great example of that message in action.
Martinez, a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and ReadyOne Industries employee with a visual disability, recently represented ReadyOne’s El Paso workforce at SourceAmerica’s Grassroots Advocacy Conference in Washington, D.C. There, he met with members of Congress and congressional staff to share his experience as both a veteran and an employee with a disability.

I had the chance to meet Ruben when he came into the studio for an interview last year, and what immediately stood out to me was his sense of humor.
He has a way of finding the funny moments in life and even uses humor when talking about his disability. But behind that personality is also an incredibly strong work ethic and a commitment to his work.
“Ruben brings two perspectives to this conversation: his service as a Marine and his work at ReadyOne,” said Craig Wellons, CEO of ReadyOne Industries.
By representing ReadyOne, his fellow veterans and the El Paso community on Capitol Hill, Ruben helped shine a national spotlight on the valuable contributions people with disabilities make every day.
