
Ranked 25th in Education, Texas Faces a New Challenge: Teacher Exodus
Education is important to many residents in the state of Texas. Not only is it vital for individuals to learn and grow, it's also essential that younger Texans learn what they need to grow and inspire the next generation. However, teachers in Texas aren't really wanting to stay in the state for multiple reasons.
How Does Texas Rank In Education Overall?
According to USNews, the state of Texas landed right in the middle for overall education. The Lone Star State was placed at 25th out of the 50 states for learning, which means Texas has a lot of work to do. Multiple factors influenced the ranking.
Overall, students in Texas have $12,671 in debt after graduation. 90.3% of students get their high school diploma, and math scores are four points under the national average, 269.

But to get students educated, teachers have to be employed to teach them. Right now however, some teachers don't want to be in the state at all.
Why Are Certain Teachers In The State Of Texas Trying To Leave?
According to the Texas Tribune, some teachers in Texas are attempting to get out of The Lone Star State for a multitude of reasons. In data collected by the American Association of University Professors, questions were brought to teachers in the southern part of the United States.
Of the 4,000 that were interviewed, 1,100 worked in the Lone Star State. One of the biggest reasons for leaving is the politics in the state. Per an unnamed educator in Texas:
“Morale is down...Friends have lost contracts for no discernable [sic] reason. We live in fear of using the wrong word. We self-censor. We do not have academic freedom.”
In addition to that, some individuals who responded to the survey, 60% in total, stated they wouldn't recommend graduate students or people they know to seek jobs in the Lone Star State. As this is a developing story, we will have more information when it becomes available.
