Here in Texas, where the Gulf is part of our identity, people are split. For generations, Texans have fished, swum (or is it 'swam'???), and sailed in those waters, proudly calling it the Gulf of Mexico. Will rebranding it really change anything? Or is this just another 'nothing burger'?

I can picture it now--“Vacation on the Gulf of America”! It definitely has a ring to it!
