USA Today Just Ranked This Texas Favorite a Top Gas Station
It’s great to see one of my all-time favorite gas station chains getting a little love. It gives me a sense of validation.
Don’t get me wrong – it’s not that I need the opinion of others to validate my own, as I’m as hardheaded as they come. It just feels good to know that I’m among a bunch of like-minded people.
If, like me, you grew up in North or West Texas or New Mexico, chances are you’re quite familiar with Allsup’s. When I was a kid in Vernon back in the 80s, we had four of them in that little town of about 12,000 people. You didn’t have to travel far to grab one of their "World Famous Burritos."

Of course, there’s much more to Allsup’s than their burritos. I can remember riding my bike to the location in South Main with a pocket full of quarters so I could play Yie Ar Kung-Fu and then grab a Hostess Vanilla Pudding Pie for the ride home.
The thing about Allsup’s is that I always thought of it as a regional chain that didn’t get much love outside of Texas and New Mexico. And while that may be the case, for the most part, it (along with its parent company Yesway) was voted the 9th most popular gas station chain in the U.S. in the USA Today Readers’ Choice Awards 2025.
So, I guess the word is out about the awesomeness that is Allsup’s, and it’s no longer our little secret. Good for them.
